Step aside, Tesla tunnels and Amazon spaceships. Get off the runway, flying taxis. Transit’s got a big idea for mobility. But we need your help to make it happen. Join us on Tuesday for the biggest transportation innovation since the MTA started zapping away cars with bus lane cameras.

Join Transit’s Head of Policy, Andrew Salzberg, in conversation with a quartet of open mobility champions who are kicking down app-based barriers across public transit, mobile ticketing, on-demand trips, microtransit, and bikeshare.

Okay, so what’s the idea?

The world is chock-full o’ new mobility doo-dads: companies have cooked up dozens of apps for carshare, bikeshare, ridehail, scooters, mobile fare payment, on-demand transit, etc. etc. etc. At Transit, we help cities and transit agencies bring it all together, by building the single best app imaginable for riders.

But what if it’s not about having one app for everything? What if it’s about making sure all the apps work… together?

E pluribus unum, but for mobility

Lots of companies promise to bring Mobility-as-a-Service together in “one app to rule them all.” But it’s like Ursula in the Little Mermaid: once you sign the dotted line, you're trapped. And one company lording over all of transportation sounds… bad.

Luckily, having all the apps work together is great for cities and transit agencies — but the best part is that it’s happened before:

  • GTFS brought transit information to apps like Google Maps, Apple Maps, and a green kiddo named Transit.
  • GBFS did the same for bikeshare and scooters, and now...
  • GOFS is under development for on-demand microtransit.
Plus: next-generation fare payment platforms are already integrating into other apps...

Maybe the future isn’t so far away after all?

Whether you’re at a public agency, a private company, or a blue-sky not-for-profit, there’s something you can do to open up app-based mobility.

So study up! We summarized it all in a new handbook, Transit’s Guide to Open Mobility-as-a-Service, with step-by-step info and real-life examples. Class is in session on Tuesday, June 22.

There’s no pop quiz, but there will be a webinar: Andrew will walk through the handbook and chat with Tonya, John, David, and Morgan about how they’re pushing towards a more open, integrated mobility future. Don't skip out!
